The book is a tribute, not only to a cinematic cultural heritage, but also to the talent that created these films and posters, as well as a bygone era when films were seen in cinemas and movie marketing took place on printed paper.

Here, bathing blondes, furry space monsters, country bumpkin cowherders, sexologists and one-eyed female avengers are splashed across posters with one single message: sell, sell, sell!

Swedish exploitation films/cult films were exported globally for many decades, not least thanks to the concept “Swedish Sin”, but also horror, sex education and science fiction movies were bankable abroad. These films contributed more to shaping the foreign image of Sweden than the more ‘serious’ films by the prestige directors.

»Thanks to these movies, Swedish actresses got leading roles in international productions, and unscrupulous producers in other countries threw the word Sweden into the film’s title to hint that ‘now it’s getting a little saucy and naked’. This despite the fact that many of these films often had no connection at all to Sweden,« says the book’s author Rickard Gramfors, film historian, movie collector and the man behind Klubb Super 8.

For 20 years, Klubb Super 8 has released Swedish cult films on VHS, DVD, arranged film screenings and film festivals, and Rickard has over the years amassed a considerable collection of posters for Swedish films from a number of countries.

The book “Do You Believe in Swedish Sin” is filled with over 350 posters from Rickard’s archive – a wide ranging survey of spectacular and speculative posters from One summer of Happiness (1951) to The Ninja Mission (1984). All posters have been scanned and restored to the highest possible standard. In addition to the films themselves, various genres and personalities are described, which have rarely been included in books about Swedish film history, despite their enormous contribution to Sweden’s international film reputation.
